how to tune:
tune the high string to the open string. tune the string to
the second fret of the string. tune the string to the open
string. tune the string to the second fret of the A string. tune the
string so that the second fret (of the string) matches the open A
string.

The other guitar is in GGDDGG (i think), but i haven't transcribed it
because i can't hear it. There IS however one part i have missed, but i
don't want to tune back to that terrible tuning to figure it out. (i'll
point it out when the time comes.)

SCREAMING SKULL

 >VERSE: theres just that one chord, C5, then rake in rhythm as kim says
 >the werds. by C5 i mean the root note on the E string (8th fret) plus
 >the fifth on the A string (10th fret) and possibly the octave on the D
 >string (10th fret) if yr not too lazy. by rake i mean release the action
 >a little so that the strings are muted, then strum up and down. with the
 >right distortion this will sound like the album.

SOLO: im so off on this. it really may be two guitars playing off each
other by a fifth. dunno. the bass plays the verse/chorus structure through.

     -----------------------|----------------------
     -----------------------|---------------------- (do this
     ----------8-10-8-10/12-|----------8-10-8------ twice.)

     -12-12-12--8-10--8-10/12-|-12-12-12--8-10--8-12-10- twice.)
     -10-10-10----------------|-10-10-10----------10--8-
     -------------------------|-------------------------

     --8-----8--8-10----10----|--6-----k----k----k------
     -------------------------|--------e----e----e------
     -------------------------|-------------------------

thats all. anyone who can come up with a tuning that would facilitate this
fifthed part of the solo, eg. by putting the fifth in the same fret rather
than in the second or third (yeah, those high strings are a pain in the
ass), please post.

Tuff Knarl by Sonic Youth
tabbed by mike abraham(bobbyblu@star.net)

tuning: EAD#GA#A#

how to tune:

tune the D string up to the sixth fret of the A string
tune the B string down to the third fret of the G string
the A#'s are in unison

bear with me..... i don't think this is right cause
it's a very hard song to figure out.
four guitars at the same time!
(i'm only trying to do one..thurston's)
i don't even think it's complete but it's a start.
this song is one of my all time favorites of sonic youth.

repeat about twice:
A# |-------------- 0-0-3-3-3---0---------------------|
A#|-------2-2-2-2-0-0-3-3-3-2-0--------------------|
G |-2-2-----------------------------------------------|
D#|-----2--------------------------------------------|
A |-------------------------------------------------|
E |-------------------------------------------------|

he's runin' on a tuff knarl in his head....
(lee ranaldo is doing some sort of harmonics in the backround i think)
A#|-222222222222222222-------3333333-2-0--------------|
A#|-222222222222222222-------3333333-2-0----------|

then basically just make SONIC noise
michael's music links said something about a certain way to do the noise.
i should ev' kept the message

i think this is the bassline that goes through the midrange sonic noise...........
