Dry The River Chords & Tabs

Version: 2 Type: Chords

History Book Chords

I'm not good at fingering. So I wanted a chord version.
This is combination of joecoonz & GreenGoodbyes TABs

for acoustic album tuning
Capo on 2

for LP version
Capo on 3

take note:
G (high) = take your C chord and slide up 7 frets.

(fill) = those are the bass notes.
I just take my C chord and slide up to D & back to C & walk down to G.

Verse 1:

     C G (high)
Like faithful oxen through the chalk,
     G Em
With dragging tails of history walk.
C G (high) G C sus2 G
Soon confuse the compass and the cross. (fill)
C G (high) G Em C C-D-C-B-G D
Carefully and cursively we fill our traveling diaries with loss.

Verse 2:
   C G (high)
Beneath an angry Bible flood,
    G Em
Did you and I first learn to love.
C G (high) G C sus2 G
In my father's car we came to know. (fill)
     C G (high) G Em C C-D-C-B-G D
And shivered in our painted clothes and paired like every animal below.

Chorus:
              Em
As heavy as a history book can be,
         G C G D
I will carry it with me, oh Lord.
                   Em
And maybe when the bitterness has gone,
              G C G D
There'll be sweetness on our tongues once more.

Verse 3:
[ Tab from: https://www.guitartabs.cc/tabs/d/dry_the_river/history_book_crd_ver_2.html ]
C G (high)
Barefoot in a rowing boat
    G Em
You loose your shoes and freeze your toes
    C G (high) G C sus2 G
And say I wear my sorrow like a crown (fill)
    C G (high) G Em C C-D-C-B-G D
And throw your arms around my head, and see it there in gold and red and brown

Chorus:
              Em
As heavy as a history book can be,
         G C G D
I will carry it with me, oh Lord.
                   Em
And maybe when the bitterness has gone,
              G C G D
There'll be sweetness on our tongues once more.

Bridge:
      F C G
We'll soon forget our parents' names,
   F C G
Like dogs will drive the wolves away.
    F C
And weep with fingertips opposed,
        G F G F
Like a church where nobody congregates.

Last Part Outro:

Am C G F
But sweetness sings in the pasture,
Am C G F
We throw ourselves on the mercy of the earth.
Am C G F
If sand and salt have the answer,
Am C G F Am
Then the act itself will be louder than the word.

And I'll be on your side..

And I'll be on your side..

Etc. - Am C G F hold F then end on C
