The Knuckleball Suite Tab

Artist: Peter Mulvey
Song: The Knuckleball Suite
Album: Notes From Elsewhere

Tuning: AFCFAC then Capo IV (strings 1-5 only)

Figure I: The ring finger sweeps over the 16th fret and creates the octave harmonic on
strings 3-5.
The index finger frets the 14th fret. The right hand picking pattern is focused on a
couple slightly different
alternating patterns between the 4th strings two notes; the 3rd and 5th strings are only
played for harmony/texture.
Generally throughout this figure the right hand percussively picks with significant palm
muting: Listen to the track to get the feel.

Chords (frets relative to capo): The A chord is an actual triadic chord. D and D(2)
are D chords that each contain the second
scale tone of E, but each with a different inversion. Although not indicated in the
chord chart directly below, as the song enters the
third verse, play the low E string (tuned down to A) to create additional texture.

Fills: Throughout the song, when there is not any singing, fills are played while
simultaneously playing the open strings that are
not being fretted at that second. Below, in no particular order, are the fretted notes
for the fills. Play around with these notes against the
open strings and you will soon get the idea.
