This song, purely for its energy, is among my favorite Grateful Dead songs. An old blues song
written by Bobby Bland, the Grateful Dead never actually recorded this song in the studio, but
only played it live. Hence, all of the versions are different, but the main structure of the song
is pretty much the same. My personal favorite and the version of the song that I
will be basing this
tab off of is the version on Live/Dead, however this can be played to nearly any live version you
can find of it. Phil plays a couple riffs, but besides these, he is pretty much always improvising,
something you can easily do because the song is so loose; if you play an E major blues scale
you pretty much can't go wrong.

The song is in the key of E major and is in standard tuning.

Main riff:
G|---------------------6--9----------------------|
D|------6--9-------7-----------------------------|
A|---7-------------------------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------------|

The second riff can be heard in this version after Pigpen goes through the chorus,
(so come on baby, baby please) and right after
"let it shine on me, let it shine, let it shine let it shine..."

G|------------6--9---13--11--9---------------------|
D|------6--7---------------------11--9-------------|
A|---7---------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------------------|

And that's it! Sometimes the song will go to a place where those riffs don't work;
in that case you
can always just pedal an E until you get the feel for it. Above all, have fun playing!!

Peace out and jam on.
