On the verses you can either play the straight chords 
or do a little suspension like 
open hammer on Am7 hammer on a7sus then back to Am7
and the same thing with the Dadd9

On that last chorus when they start repeating 
it becomes only the background vocals singing that 
with the lead just kind of adlibbing 
then it settles back down for "Don't let me go"

It sounds good if you play the Cadd9 and the Dadd9 like this
