I Don't Wanna Know Chords

Artist: JULIAN LENNON
Song: I DON’T WANNA KNOW
Album: PHOTOGRAPH SMILE
Tabbed by: Nadja Dee Witherbee

Note: This is one of my favorite Julian Lennon songs (Oldest son of John Lennon & Cynthia). It’s very Beatle sounding (intentional as told by Julian) and I love it. But nobody had tabbed it out. Most of the song was pretty straightforward, D’s – G’s – A’s and throw in a few minor chords for flavor. It was the opening chord that got me stuck. Finally I contacted my amazing guitar instructor, Charles McCrone from the Kaleidoscope School Of Music. He came up with 3 possible opening chords, and I’ve posted the best ones here, so play both and then decided which one you like. Warning: it’s a tough chord to play, and quite possibly played on a 12 string for effect. Good luck and enjoy! ~Nadja Dee

I don't wanna [Em] know what's going on
I don't wanna [D] know what's right or wrong
I don't wanna [Em] know who's bed you're in
I don't wanna [D] know just where you've been

Oh [Em] baby
[G] You were never really [D] good for me
Just [Em] maybe
[G] You're a stranger to re[D]ality
And [Em] baby
[G] Don't you know you haven't [D] got a clue
Cause [Em7] lately
[G] I don't know what to [D] do

I don't wanna [Em] know what's going on
I don't wanna [D] know what's right or wrong
I don't wanna [Em] know who's bed you're in
I don't wanna [D] know just where you've been
[ Tab from: https://www.guitartabs.cc/tabs/j/julian_lennon/i_dont_wanna_know_crd.html ]
Oh [Em] baby
[G] You said you're changing for the [D] better now
Just [Em] maybe
[G] You're not as strong as you [D] thought somehow
And [Em] baby
[G] You know you're heading down a [D] one way track
And [Em7] baby
[G] I won't bring you [D] back

Well you [Em7] said you were looking for a better way
But you [G] just keep coming [D] back
To a [Em7] place you can never seem to get away
That will [G] always hold you [A] back
[A] Back…back…back…back…back…back**

[G] You said you'd rather be a [D] Daddy's girl
But [Em] lately
[G] You're trying to fight against the [D] whole wide world
Just [Em] maybe
[G] You've found a love that you can [D] hold on to
And [Em7] baby
[G] I pray for [D] you

I don't wanna [Em] know what's going on
I don't wanna [D] know what's right or wrong
I don't wanna [Em] know who's bed you're in

repeat and fade

**Notes:
Another fun way to play this “back…back…back…” part is to slide the “A” note up the fretboard on each “back.”
[A] Back [B*(4)] back [C*(5)] back [D*(7)] back [Eb*(8)] back [F*(10)] back [A*(14)] back

A: x-0-2-2-2-0
B*(4): x-0-4-4-4-0
C*(5): x-0-5-5-5-0
D*(7): x-0-7-7-7-0
Eb*(8): x-0-8-8-8-0
F*(10: x-0-10-10-10-0
A*(14): x-0-14-14-14-0

Or just play the A over and over. It’s up to you. Just have fun with it.

I got the chords as close to the song as I could, I hope I was pretty accurate. It’s a great song by Julian. I’m really glad he decided to just throw his hands up and go ahead and just sound like his dear old dad.

~enjoy!
