Version: 1 Type: Chords

Stars And The Moon Chords

I can't promise it's in the same key as Jason wrote it, as I don't have the sheet music
a piano. But I wanted to play it so I've been singing with these chords and I really
the sound. It's perfect in the lower soprano range as I have it tabbed here.
Hopefully you'll like it, too!

D Am
I met a man without a dollar to his name
           C D
who had no traits of any value but his smile
D Am
I met a man who had no yearn or claim to fame
          C D
who was content to let life pass him for a while
Am Em
and I was sure that all I ever wanted
      C Am
was a life like the movie stars led
       Em A
and he kissed me right here, and he said

               D
"I'll give you stars and the moon and a soul to guide you
      G
and a promise I'll never go.
              D
I'll give you hope to bring out all the life inside you
        G
and the strength that will help you grow.
              D
I'll give you truth and a future that's twenty times better
     G A
than any Hollywood plot."
               A D
And I thought, 'You know, I'd rather have a yacht.'

D Am
I met a man who lived his life out on the road
           C D
who left a wife and kids in Portland on a whim
D Am
I met a man whose fire and passion always showed
             C D
who asked if I could spare a week to ride with him
Am Em
but I was sure that all I'd ever wanted
      C Am
was a life that was scripted and planned
       Em A
And he said, "But you don't understand...

              D
I'll give you stars and the moon and the open highway
      G
and a river beneath your feet.
              D
I'll give you days full of dreams if you travel my way
      G
and a summer you can't repeat.
              D
I'll give you nights full of passion and days of adventure,
    G A
No strings, just warm summer rain."
                A D
And I thought, 'You know, I'd rather have champagne.'

D Am
I met a man who had a fortune in the bank
        C D
who had retired at age thirty, set for life.
D Am
I met a man and didn't know which stars to thank,
            C D
and then he asked one day if I would be his wife.
Am Em
And I looked up, and all I could think of
        C Am
was the life I had dreamt I would live.
              Em A
And I said to him, 'What will you give?'

               D
"I'll give you cars and a townhouse in Turtle Bay,
      G
and a fur and a diamond ring.
             D
And we'll be married in Spain on my yacht today
          G
and we'll honeymoon in Beijing.
                D
And you'll meet stars at the parties I throw at my villas
   G A
in Nice and Paris in June."

               A
and I thought, "Okay."
             C
And I took a breath,
             A
and I got my yacht,
                   C
and the years went by,
             Am
and it never changed,
             Em
and it never grew,
            Am
and I never dreamed...
               Em
And I woke one day,
             C
and I looked around,
                A
and I thought, 'My God....
                    D
I'll never have the moon.'
